06 May 2026

From 23 to 26 June 2026, the data protection authorities of the G7 countries will meet in Paris, with the CNIL chairing the meeting. This annual gathering aims to strengthen international cooperation and promote a high level of personal data protection in the age of digital transformation.

As part of France’s G7 presidency in 2026, the CNIL will host the annual meeting of the Data Protection Authorities’ Roundtable in Paris from 23 to 26 June.

This meeting will take place against an international backdrop characterized by the rapid growth of digital technologies, particularly artificial intelligence, and by rising expectations regarding the protection of personal data.

A forum for strategic cooperation between data protection authorities

Established in 2021, the Data Protection and Privacy Authorities Roundtable of G7 members brings together, under the leadership of the annual chair, the competent authorities of (in alphabetical order) Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom, the United States, as well as the European Union.

It has three main objectives:

  • to exchange information on legal, technological and operational developments in the various jurisdictions;
  • to facilitate strategic exchanges between the heads of the authorities;
  • to seek, as far as possible, common positions on matters of shared interest.

Focus for 2026

As part of the French Presidency, several working groups will continue their work throughout the year and report on their progress:

  • Emerging technologies
  • Law enforcement cooperation
  • Free movement of data

A presidency characterised by dialogue and pragmatism

The French presidency will seek to promote a framework for cooperation based on dialogue, the exchange of expertise and the pursuit of practical common ground.

The French G7 presidency will provide an opportunity to strengthen international cooperation on data protection and to contribute to digital governance that respects fundamental rights and freedoms.
