Closure of the injunction issued against MICROSOFT IRELAND OPERATIONS LIMITED
By decision of 11 May 2023, the CNIL's restricted committee closed the injunction issued on 19 December 2022 against MICROSOFT IRELAND OPERATIONS LIMITED.
On December 19, 2022, MICROSOFT IRELAND OPERATIONS LIMITED was fined 60 million euros by the CNIL's restricted committee, the body responsible for imposing sanctions. It also required the company, within three months, to allow users of "bing.com" located in France to give their consent to the use of tracers used to combat advertising fraud, as soon as they arrived on the website.
Failure to comply with this injunction exposed the company to a penalty of 60,000 euros per day of delay.
MICROSOFT IRELAND OPERATIONS LIMITED responded within the allotted timeframe and made technical modifications so that tracking linked to the fight against advertising fraud would be inactive in the absence of specific consent from French users.
Considering that it had complied with the injunction, the restricted committee decided on May 11, 2023 to close the procedure.
